On 1st April, 1895, Insein Government Technical Institute was initially opened as Government Engineering School at the back of Lanmadaw station in Yangon.
The Purpose of establishing GTI (Insein)
The purpose is to provide vocational training for young people who live in various regions and states in Myanmar and to develop local techniques and human resources.
On 1st April, 1895, Insein Government Technical Institute was initially opened as Government Engineering School at the back of Lanmadaw station in Yangon. In 1898, from there, it was moved and opened to Eastern part of Insein Station and called Government School of Engineering. In 1908, this school has moved and opened to the present place, called Government School of Engineering and Technical High School. Before moving this place, main building has established. Since 1912 to still now, the school was named as Government Technical Institute. According to the record, Second Year Course (Academic Year 1995-1996) was trained in Thanlyin Government Technical Institute. In 2007, this school was transferred to YCGC. After that, On 9th September 2016, this school was transferred from WYDC to Ministry of Education and on 1st December 2017,1st year course was reopened in this school.

Government Technical Institute (Insein), which covers an area of 41.997 acres, is located in Insein Township, Ywama East Quarter, Yangon Region. There are Thiri Lane in the east, lower Mingaladon Road and Ywarma Police Station in the west, a garment factory and tank top factory in the north, Mingyi Road and Bogone Market in the south.

Government Technical Institute (Insein) provides a monthly stipend of 30,000 Kyats per student. During the study period, we also provide practical skills to gain access to work experience in some private businesses according to the relevant training.
Future opportunities after graduation
After graduation, we provide higher educations for special graduates at Technological University (TU) and we coordinate with some private companies to provide job opportunities for ordinary graduates.
